Our geography curriculum, whilst aligned to the National Curriculum, and Early Years Foundation Stage, is organised so that units of learning are delivered through specific themes which are:

Our thematic approach enables pupils to investigate a variety of people, places and environments from the immediate locality to the wider world and make appropriate links between them. Through fostering a sense of curiosity about the world in which they live, pupils develop locational understanding and knowledge of diverse places. As pupils progress, they will become better equipped to understand the interaction between physical and human processes and the formation and use of landscapes and environments. This knowledge is built in tandem with geographical skills acquisition and application which engages pupils in fieldwork and appropriate research.

Progression documents identify key learning in enquiry, direction and location as well as map skills and it is these fundamental skills along with key knowledge which form the basis of assessment. Teachers use both formative and low stakes summative testing to measure pupils’ knowledge and skill acquisition as well as application.
