Year 6 Athletics

ree

This term, Year 6 laced up their trainers and headed off for an action-packed Athletics afternoon, ready to challenge themselves in a variety of exciting events. From the moment they stepped into the sports hall, the buzz of competition and the cheers of different schools created an atmosphere full of determination and pride.

The day began with the relay, an event that tested coordination, timing, and trust. Pupils sprinted down the lanes, baton in hand, giving everything they had to secure a strong finish for their team. Each smooth pass and burst of speed showed just how well they worked together.

Next came the speed bounce, where pupils aimed to complete as many controlled jumps as possible. The rapid rhythm of bouncing feet and the constant encouragement from teammates made this a real crowd favourite. Year 6 showed excellent stamina and technique, with many pupils pushing beyond their previous personal bests.

The javelin event gave pupils the chance to demonstrate their throwing power using foam javelins. Concentration, accuracy, and careful technique came together as pupils launched their throws across the hall - several distances were met with proud smiles and well-earned applause. During the vertical jump, pupils tested their explosive power, jumping as high as they could to hit the markers. Every extra centimetre gained was celebrated with enthusiasm from the sidelines.

The day finished with the paarlauf, a continuous relay that demanded pacing, teamwork, and resilience. Pupils ran alternating laps with their partners, keeping a steady rhythm and cheering each other on right to the end.

Despite tired legs, the smiles were huge. What truly stood out wasn’t just physical ability, but the supportive, determined and positive attitude shown throughout the entire event. Year 6 represented the school brilliantly and we are incredibly proud of their effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.
