Year 6 recently spent a special day at St Mary’s, taking part in a variety of activities focused on reflection, unity, and creativity. The visit also gave pupils the opportunity to spend time alongside other local feeder schools, helping them gain a real sense of what a typical day at secondary school might feel like as they begin preparing for the important transition to high school.

Throughout the morning, pupils participated in sessions that explored themes of prayer, community, and unity. These moments encouraged pupils to reflect on the importance of supporting one another and working together, while also giving them time to pause and consider the values that bring communities together.

During the writing workshop, pupils explored symbolism in poetry, learning how writers often use symbols to communicate deeper meanings beneath the surface of their words. The session offered an exciting sneak preview of what English lessons at secondary school can be like, encouraging pupils to analyse language carefully and discuss different interpretations. It was wonderful to see just how confidently Year 6 rose to the challenge — their thoughtful ideas, mature discussions, and creative insights really did shine.

To finish the day, pupils enjoyed a fantastic live performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory presented by St Mary’s drama department. The performance was full of energy, humour, and impressive acting, giving pupils a glimpse of the exciting opportunities available in secondary school drama.

The visit to St Mary’s was a wonderful experience for Year 6 and our pupils represented the school brilliantly throughout the day - embracing every activity with enthusiasm and maturity.
