Year 6 SATs Parent Workshop

Recently, we welcomed our Year 6 parents into school for a SATs Parent Workshop, designed to give families a clearer understanding of the assessments pupils will complete in May.

During the session, parents had the opportunity to work alongside their children, completing a range of tasks similar to those pupils experience in the SATs tests. This hands-on approach helped demonstrate both the type of questions and the length of the assessments, allowing parents to see first-hand the concentration and resilience required from pupils.

Activities included examples from grammar and spelling, reading comprehension and maths reasoning. Parents explored how questions are structured and tried solving problems themselves, often discovering just how challenging some of the tasks can be. Laughter, determination and thoughtful discussions filled the room as families worked through the activities together.

Throughout the workshop, parents were provided with demonstrations and helpful resources, explaining strategies that pupils use in class and sharing practical ways parents can support learning at home. From understanding tricky grammar terminology to breaking down multi-step maths problems, the session offered valuable insight into the skills Year 6 pupils are developing every day.

We would like to thank all the parents who attended and took part so enthusiastically. Your support makes a real difference, and our Year 6 pupils greatly benefit from the encouragement they receive both in school and at home.
